Lucas, the Super Hero

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

So, I was at a book reading at Tierra Linda School the other day and I was on my way to my truck when I noticed a minivan with a wheel chair set up next to it.  As I climbed into my truck, I noticed that a mother and father were lifting a young boy into the wheel chair.  He had missed the book reading!  It was then that I heard that still, small Voice clearly say, “Give him a book!”  How could I resist that?  I stepped out of my truck and ran up to the surprised parents to ask if I could sign a book for their son.  His name was Lucas and he told me that he wanted to write a book about a super hero in a wheel chair.  I told Lucas that he was that super hero.  So, when I took an Itty Bitty book out to sign for him, I noticed that the book was already signed.  A child had paid for a book and I mistakenly put the book back in my bag.  I gave Lucas his book and he was smiling from ear to ear.  Then I went to find the PTA coordinator.  When I found her, she was counting books, looked up and said, “one is missing.”  I said, “I know.  Here it is.”  Amazing how God directs us.  He used Lucas, the super hero, to let me know that I had unfinished business at the school!

A Visit to Grandson Merrick’s Pre-School

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

Hi, Everybody!

Two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of reading “Itty Bitty Saves the Day” at Lutheran Church of the Cross Pre-School in Laguna Woods, California.

It was a very special day, especially because that is where my grandson, Merrick, goes to school!  Merrick was a great helper.  He even introduced me to the class at one of the readings.  In the picture below, Merrick is listening patiently with his stuffed Dachshund named “Itty Bitty” right next to him.

Merrick even took his Itty Bitty around for  the children to pet. The whole day was a blessing for both Merrick, Grammie MaryAnn, and his “Grampando”.

Have a wonderful day!

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

Hi, Everybody!

Earlier this month we visitied the Little Red School House in Santa Paula, California.  That’s where Santa Clara Elementary is. This school house was built over 100 years ago!

The children loved the story of “Itty Bitty Saves the Day.”

Here are a couple of pictures:

About Dachshunds and Why I Love Them

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

Hi, Everyone!

I realized the other day that I had not posted exactly why I love Dachshunds.  They are certainly a different shape than most dogs.  They’re called “wieners” or “hot dogs” because they are short and long.  That’s because, in Germany, they were bred as hunting dogs that would follow badgers down into their burrows.  Their short, powerful legs allowed them to dig down into the burrow, find the badger and bring it out.

Here’s a picture of Itty Bitty with Grandma, Roxy.  See how powerful their legs look!

Fortunately, for the most part, they’re not used for hunting today.  They are pretty good at letting you know when a possum, raccoon or squirrel is in the yard, though!

Today, they are better known for being loyal and loveable family pets.  They are very affectionate and love to cuddle on a couch with you.  There are times when I lay on the couch and our Dachshunds join me.  It’s like I have a Dachshund blanket to keep me warm!

Those are just a few of the reasons why I love Dachshunds.  What are yours?  Let me know why you love Dachshunds by commenting on this blog.

Well, time to go and cuddle with my Doxies!

God Bless,

Ali Comes to Visit

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

Hi, Everybody,

This week, Itty Bitty and our family had a visit from Alejandra (Ali) Marr.  Ali came to visit with her parents, Pastor Ken and Rita Marr.  Ken and Rita are missionaries in Baja California, Mexico.  That is where they met Ali, who is an Indian girl with special needs.  Ken and Rita have adopted Ali and this was her first trip to the United States!

Ali fell in love with Itty Bitty’s grandmother, Roxy.  Roxy played fetch with Ali and let Ali give her a big hug.  Roxy was very patient with Ali.  Here they are playing together:

Well, that’s all for now.  It is dinner time and Itty Bitty is hungry.

God Bless you!

Itty Bitty’s Next Book

Things are going very well with the photo illustrations and writing for Itty Bitty’s next book.  It is called “Itty Bitty Family and Friends” and will introduce children to all of the family and friends that make up Itty Bitty’s world.  I hope to have the book out late this year or early next year.  So, stay tuned!

Keep checking our blog for news from Itty Bitty himself and visit our website at:

Best wishes.

Itty Bitty and his current health.

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Many of you  have asked me what Itty Bitty looks like today and also how his health is.  Well, I have posted a picture here for you to see what a pretty Dachshund he is!  As you can see, his is still Itty Bitty and still has big feet!  He is two years old now and still half the size of his Uncle Chance.  He is full grown, though. So he will always be Itty Bitty.

As far as his health goes, he has had a heart murmur and liver condition since birth and that is what has kept him from growing bigger.  He doesn’t know that, though, and he is as happy and lively as a dog can be!
